PM Shahbaz Promises to Distribute 1 million Smartphones to Students: A Major boost for Digital Education 

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announce to distribute 1 million smartphones to students this year. He pledges to allocate ample resources to the nation’s youth to help transform the country into a thriving, developed nation. The event on International Day of Youth, which is organized by the Prime Ministers Youth Programme, in speak he announced that Government will give one million smartphones to high achieving students during the current year. The premier said that the Smartphones would be given to students as a gift from the federal Government.

Why this initiative Matters: 

He added that ‘The country’s youth have the potential to elevate the nation to new heights, if given access to modern education and resources’. It is a strategic step to promote digitally literate generation. He expressed his vision of provide talented youth with modern education, Information technology and artificial intelligence to spark a revolution in the country, similar to the progress seen in China. For many students particularly those in deprived area, this initiative could be the key to unlocking new opportunities and increase their learning experience that why prime minister Shahbaz announced to distribute one million smartphones to students.

Impact on Education: The provision of smartphones will directly impact the way students engage with their education. With these devices students can attend online classes, participate in virtual group studies and other apps which are designed to make learning attractive and accessible. Moreover, it was also helpful for the preparation of students in accordance with the demands of modern workforce.

Digital inclusion involves the activities necessary to ensure equitable access to and use of information and communication technologies for participation in social and economic life including for education, social services, health and community participation and it is a significant challenge in many part of country, where digital services were limited. By this initiative students from all backgrounds have the opportunity to participate in digital economy. This step is important in rural and backward areas, where traditional educational resources are limited, but internet connectivity can offer a gateway to the World.

Governments Commitment to Education: 

This initiative is a part of commitment by the Government to improve the quality of education in the country and bringing the digital divide and equipping the youth with necessary tools to succeed in a rapidly evolving world. Shahbaz Sharif also lamented that, despite having abundant resources and 77 years of independence, the country remains heavily burdened by dept. He noted that extreme poverty prevents many from affording basic needs while the country’s elite class enjoys significant privileges. Prime Minister also announced that he will personally fund the education of 1000 agricultural graduates in China, to boost Agri production.

At the beginning of the event the prime minister officially launched several key initiatives including commonwealth youth Alliance secretariat in Islamabad, the digital learning portal, Ai for youth programme which offers intel certified skills to young people.
