careful when buying mobile phones from the market. The telecom regulator
issued a statement advising the people to be exercise caution when handling
cloned or duplicate mobile devices.
Check the packaging and unboxing Experience: To ensure a secure
purchase, the PTA recommended that the consumers get phones in their
original packaging. When unboxing check for seamless and neat packaging
arrangements.
Verify the serial number and IMEI: Every real mobile device has a
unique serial number and international mobile equipment identity (IMEI)
number. To ensure a secure purchase, the PTA recommended that the
consumers get phone after verify their IMEI number match those printed on
the boxes and check for its stamp on the boxes.
Use DVS App: We can validate our devices by using the DVS app, sending
an SMS with their IMEI number to 8484, and visiting the PTA website, said the
statement.
Compare Prices: If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is. The
regulator warned people against buying expensive devices at suspiciously low
prices or without a warranty.
What to do if you suspect a duplicate device?
It said if costumers suspected fraud, they should ensure their devices are
packaged, contact the seller, and report any issues to the Federal
Investigation Agency (FIA) for action.
